Community FocusSince its inception in 1963, ECA’s dedication to the environment and to the communities it serves has made it a leader in the oil and gas industry. The company is deeply committed to leaving the environment and the communities it operates in better than they were found, and does so both tangibly, through the planting of trees and the creation of schools and community facilities, and intangibly, through its focus on employee community service. Each year, over 5,000 trees are planted by ECA on or near its drilling locations, and in 2008 alone over 14,000 trees were planted. ECA also contributes two percent of its cash flow annually to the ECA Foundation, which has to date distributed over $10 million to the communities in which ECA operates. ECA is also committed to exploiting new technology in order to leave the smallest possible footprint on the lands it impacts. Most recently, ECA began utilizing horizontal drilling, a method in which wells can be drilled parallel to the land’s surface, thus accessing oil and gas formations that are in sensitive areas or were previously inaccessible, which leaves little to no impact on the ground directly above. |
