Energy Corporation of America to Expand Operations
Charleston, WV (May 5, 2009) Energy Corporation of America (ECA), a privately held energy exploration and production company, today announced plans to expand operations in Greene County, Pennsylvania through the development of approximately 10,000 leasehold acres owned by ECA. ECA has also opened an office in Greene County to facilitate the drilling and ongoing operations in the area.
"Among our extensive acreage position in the Marcellus Shale, Greene County has proven itself as one of the best locations for development," said John Mork, CEO of ECA. "Though the industry as a whole has been slowing down, there is an estimated one trillion cubic feet of natural gas in our Greene County acreage alone, which provides us with an incredible opportunity for growth in the area."
Since its inception, ECA has acquired over 1,000,000 acres in the Appalachian Basin, and to date has drilled over 115 wells in Greene County, including 12 in the high-volume natural gas reservoir of the Marcellus Shale formation. ECA is also a member of the Marcellus Shale Committee.
ECA plans to develop its Marcellus acreage over the next three years using horizontal drilling technology, and anticipates drilling one to two horizontal wells per month. ECA was one of the first energy companies in the Appalachian Basin to utilize this technology, and drilled one of the first horizontal wells in Greene County in 2007 as part of a joint venture project with an industry partner.
ECA has established a large pipeline and infrastructure system with over 40 miles of pipeline in the area, and has sufficient capacity available on the interstate pipeline systems to market its production. A deep drilling rig is being moved to the first horizontal location to begin the program.
